What We Do

"Truly I tell you, whatever you do for the least of these,
you do unto me.” Matthew 25:

Feed the Hungry

"I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat.i was thirsty,
and you gave me something to drink"

Since 1983, St. Joseph Diner has prepared and served warm meals to the hungry of Acadiana, specifically the homeless, homebound and low income seniors. St. Joseph Diner also operates a garden that produces fresh fruits and vegetables to be used for the daily meals.

Shelter the Homeless
"I was a stranger, and you invited me in”

Since 1987, our doors have been open to homeless men, women, children and veterans of Acadiana. Operating the regions largest men's shelter, St. Joseph Shelter cares for 38 men each night. St. Michael Center for Veteransprovides housing and veteran services for up to 20 male veterans.

Also operating the regions largest women and children's shelter, the New Life Center has the capacity to house 58 women and 68 children every night. The New Life Center Child Care is one of only two Class A licensed child care facilities in Louisiana specifically designated to care for the special needs of homeless children.

Bishop O'Donnell Transitional Housing is designed to providing temporary housing and transitional services to 8 homeless women withchildren that are on the verge of independence.

Through Shelter Plus Care, we are able to offer 23 rental vouchers to homeless individuals and families to transition from homeless to permanent housing.

Our Re-Housing Program assists homeless clients to transition from emergency shelter and/or transitional housing into permanent housing. Our housing specialists assess clients' readiness to transition into self-sufficiency, develop Individual Service Plans to help clients attain their goal of permanent housing and work with clients to identify housing options that meet their needs.

The housing case managers act as a liaison between landlords and housing managers to secure appropriate housing options. They also assist clients with moving into housing and securing furnishings. Finally, up to six months of case management follow up is provided to ensure clients maintain housing.

Aid those in Financial Crisis

"I was naked and you clothed me”

The Monsignor Sigur Service Center provides emergency financial assistance to individuals and households facing an involuntary situational crisis. Financial assistance includes but is not limited to rent/mortgage, utilities, medical, dental, prescriptions, fire, disaster, burials, and bus fare. We also administer seasonal programs such as Adopt a Family.

Care for the Sick

"I was sick, and you looked after me”

Though a valuable partnership, Our Lady of Lourdes operates St. Bernadette Clinic on our campus, which offers free basic medical and dental services for the homeless, indigent and uninsured.

Stella Maris Center is a hygiene facility that provides a place for individuals to take shower, use the restroom, do laundry, and take care of other basic hygiene needs. Stella Maris Center also connects homeless individuals with additional resources to assist them as they find a way to regain self-sufficiency.

Named after Our Lady Star of the Sea, Stella Maris Center is a safe haven from the storms of this world. Built in 2012, Stella Maris Center has been able to meet the needs of the homeless because of a generous lead contribution from Lourdes Foundation and continued support from other local foundations.
